Dark Ghost The 'Dark' Carpathian Book 27 eBook Christine Feehan

I've been reading Christine Feehan Carpathian series from the beginning and I have to say this one was probably my biggest disappointment. It seems as the series moves on its more about the sex and not about what they really are, Carpathian Vampire Hunters. Sure there were a couple or three quick hunting scenarios that were thrown in but it turns right back to sex.
Almost the entire book was spent (and this is a spoiler) with the two of them in a cave with her "overcoming her fears" and him being proud of how she always "overcame her fears." She talks a lot about her wonderful Grandma who she loves more than anything and she's even why's she's there so you'd think she'd put in an appearance at some point ...nope. Just a weird teaser at the end.
I love some romance just like the next person but when you've got a series that is about these incredible honorable men who protect humans by fighting and killing vampires you kinda expect more of that.
That's why I've loved Christine Feehan and have purchased ever single one of her books she's ever published, that I'm aware of. She has such a way of writing these books with a perfect combination of brilliant vampire hunting action, holding your breath in anticipation as if you are watching the fight take place but also taking in the beauty of these very dangerous hunters with no emotions wake up to love as they find their lifemates.....usually. Not in this book. She just didn't get that combination right. It was if she didn't have any fights left in her. I hope this isn't a peek of what's the end if the Carpathian Series.

Dark Ghost The 'Dark' Carpathian Book 27 eBook Christine Feehan Reviews

I have been reading Christing Feehan’s Dark series since the beginning. I used to love them. I have to say that I really, really, hated this book. What a waste of time and money! The first few chapters had potential, but then got too boring with 90% of the book with the characters in a cave. Talk about boring conversation and repetitive sex scenes, and how often do we have to hear that Andre Boroi is “gorgeous”? Obviously every page. I was so bored that I skipped not whole pages, but whole chapters. Would have been much better as a short story.

What bugs me about the book 1) The “heroine”, Teagan, was searching for a particular crystal, but never found it. It doesn’t make sense for her not to find it when that is why she was in the cave in the first place. 2) Why does Andre have to see his triplet friends, Matais, Lojos, and Tomas face to face to let them know that he found his lifemate? I would think that he could do that telepathically and let them “feel” his joy to encourage them to hold on. 3) Why introduce a new Carpathian, Fane, when there are previously introduced hunters without lifemates, such as the triplets. 4) What seriously bugs me the most is that I paid for this book. Totally NOT worth it!
I'm not even sure where to begin....

OK. Let me start by saying I picked up the Dark series when Dark Fire was brand new. I DEVOURED every single book in this series I could find after that. And that was in the days before ebooks were readily available. Christine Feehan showed me what a romance novel could really be like and I was captivated. That being said, this book was horrible. And I DO NOT say that lightly. I'm not a fan of harsh reviews and I detest author bashing because authors of this caliber put in every ounce of their blood and soul into each book the produce. Unfortunately, i don't believe this was the case with Dark Ghost.

Repeated words/phrases... like EVERYWHERE. Someone do a search of "but still" and count the number of times it comes up. Gorgeous. The number of times he says her name "just like that." I have no problem with a heroine thinking a man is out of her league then setting out to win him anyway or things of that nature, but this went on and on and on and when you think she's gotten it, she starts it again. I mean it was like the book was written in pieces or whole scenes added after the book was finished to increase word/page count. I'm fairly certain the author couldn't be bothered with proofing her work before she turned it in because, if she had, she'd have fixed so many problems. Simple things like the repeated words and phrases. I have to wonder if the editor even read the book. That's seriously not overstating the problem. There is no movement in the story whatsoever. More than half the book is exposition or introspection. Not only that, but it's the same introspection and exposition. Over and over. Ms. Feehan has always had a problem with repetition but this is by far the worst example. Even if it were a stand alone book, it wouldn't work. But this is part of a long running series and I think it died after the Mage section of the series ended. It's like she ran out of ideas or other places to go. Nothing sense has progressed the series and this book certainly didn't. The only thing it did was not finish itself. There was no resolution other than a warrior found his lifemate. Literally more than six hours of listening as they sat in a cave and discussed the same drivel over and over. There was a lot of sex but even that wasn't good. I don't mind chapters of sex if it's good sex. This wasn't. And, honestly, what had to be two full pages of describing how her climbing shoe fit? I get she did her research, but really???

All in all, I wish I could make myself ask for a refund, but I don't do that. It's not fair to the authors. But I don't think stories like this one are fair to readers and fans of an author or the series she created either. Overall, I can not recommend this one. Until I see some significant improvement in the critical reviews -- those that read like they've been written by readers who actually want to like the series -- I will not be purchasing another Dark book.
I love the Dark series, I really do, but the last 2 have just been horrible. I loved Teagan in the beginning, by the middle all she did was whine. I have to go, I don't trust you...no wait, I trust you, then back and forth like a yo-yo. Someone else mentioned it was filler story and I have to agree. Same old thing, met lifemate, killed vampire, no advancement at all in the storyline. At least it was better than the last short story, Dark Crime, that one still has my head spinning. I just hope she doesn't totally ruin the Gary S/L with her next book, been waiting for that one for awhile now.
